Joy After the Hard Thing
Round Brilliant · Wholeness
After the hard thing, joy can feel almost disloyal.
Laughter catches us by surprise. The body braces in beautiful moments, as if we are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Then something small slips through: a favorite song, a familiar meal, or a ridiculous joke at exactly the wrong—and somehow right—moment.
Welcoming joy does not mean pretending the pain never happened. A joyful moment does not diminish grief or dishonor what was lost.
Wholeness is not choosing one feeling over the other. It is allowing grief to take the time it takes without asking joy to wait until grief is finished.
We do not have to refuse what feels good to prove that what hurt us mattered.
At first, joy may return in small ways. We do not have to decide what the moment means or worry about how long it will last. We can simply be in it.
The Round Brilliant brings us back to wholeness. Not every facet catches the light at the same time, but every facet remains part of the diamond.
We can honor our grief without asking our joy to dim.
