What We Carry

Pear Cut · Transition

We carry our families with us in ways we can see—and in ways we may spend years learning to recognize.

We inherit names, photographs, recipes, and traditions. We also inherit ways of loving, ways of surviving, expectations, silences, fears, and dreams that were never given the chance to unfold. Sometimes the recipe comes with a story. Sometimes the tradition comes with an opinion no one remembers asking for.

Not everything passed down to us is ours to keep.

As we come to understand our families more fully, we begin to see that honoring where we come from does not require us to repeat everything that came before. We can hold love and disappointment at the same time. We can carry forward what gave us strength while choosing to end what caused harm.

We can look closely at what we have inherited and decide what will travel with us into the next chapter.

What will we carry forward, and what are we ready to set down?

The pear cut holds transition in its very shape. Its rounded curve carries the fullness of where it has been, while its point draws the eye toward what lies ahead. Past and future exist within a single form.

We may not have chosen everything that was handed to us, but we can choose what continues. And when we carry our inheritance differently, we change what becomes possible for generations to come.
